Raphael Varane will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer, the club has announced. Varane joined the club from Real Madrid back in 2021 and has been a constant presence in the United backline.
Manchester united announce Raphael Varane to leave club at the end of the season.
But his United career has been marred by injuries which have seen him miss several matches. He has been involved in 93 matches so far and might have played his last match for the Red Devils this season.
The French World Cup winner did have the option to extend his contract by another year but decided against it and will now leave the club on a free transfer. United issued a statement, “Raphael Varane has confirmed he will leave Manchester United in the summer, upon the expiry of his contract, following three seasons at Old Trafford.”
Varane was a part of the team which defeated Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final. United have struggled this season as persistent injury issues have hurt Erik ten Hag’s ambition this season.
They are currently stranded in the 8th place in the Premier League. Varane posted a video as he informed the supporters he will be at the Old Trafford for the final home game this campaign.
“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United.
“It’s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wearing that shirt. The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player was insane; the atmosphere was amazing.
“I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents. For my kids, it’s home here. It’s going to be a special place for me for life.
“When the fans go to Wembley it’s something they remember for life. To share that moment with them [winning the Carabao Cup] was absolutely amazing.
“Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I’m very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy. I’ll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last game at home this season and it’s going to be a very emotional day for me, for sure.”
